Started in 2017, the Wheatley Horticultural Society is a group of dedicated volunteers working on beautification and community improvement projects. We are a member of the Ontario Horticultural Association and incorporated under OMAFRA.
Our current primary focuses are Downtown Beautification and the development of the Arboretum and Learning Trail, which our volunteers started in 2020 in partnership with Chatham-Kent. These projects and other gardens are supported by our Maintenance Monday working sessions. We also aim to provide horticultural education to our community through our new Living Landscapes Garden Symposium and our meetings.
Our activities are financially supported by a number of community events and fundraisers. Our downtown beautification efforts are supported by our Fish Tub Planter sales. Each year, we host a Plant Sale and Golf Tournament. Biannually, we hold a Garden Tour where we invite you to explore the backyards and neighbourhoods of Wheatley.
Membership
Memberships are $10/year and provide insurance while participating in Horticultural Society events. They also show you support our efforts and provide a small amount of financial support.
Your membership card will allow you to access a 10% discount at DeGoey’s, Moody’s and many other local nurseries – it is always worth asking.
Our Society has a high number of memberships for a community of our size, which allows us to access extra grant money from OMAFRA to support our efforts.
