From May to the end of September, members meet at a designated project to perform regular garden maintenance. In the early spring, members focus on litter clean up. After that, the weeding and pruning commence. These sessions are meant to be short (approximately 1hr) and to stay on top of maintenance throughout the year. If you are a beginning gardener, in need of volunteer hours, or looking for a social way to give back to the community, Maintenance Mondays are for you. Please bring your favourite gloves and gardening tools.

Spring and Fall
Work Bees
At least one Saturday each spring and fall, members gather to complete larger maintenance projects at one of our projects. We remove debris, mulch, prune and plant to beautify the community.
All members are welcome at this work bee – and if you aren’t a member we’ll be prepared to make you one that day. These days are great for community spirit and it is amazing to watch a park transform in a single morning.
Plant Sale
Each year, in conjunction with Town Wide Yard Sales, the Wheatley Horticultural Society hosts a plant sale with plants donated from members’ gardens and businesses. This is a great opportunity to build a garden full of classic garden plants and native plants that do well in our environment. Prices vary, but 1 gallon perennials are often priced at 4 for $20.
Interested in donating? We recommend you start potting up divisions of plants as you do spring garden clean ups. Best practice, to avoid sharing invasive organisms, is to remove as much soil from the roots as possible and pot in sanitized potting soil. Please note that we do not accept plants on Ontario’s Invasive Plants list. For more information on invasive species, please visit the Ontario Invasive Plant Council’s website.
Golf Tournament
Teams of Four will compete in a basic scramble format 9 hole golf tournament on a Sunday afternoon, and then enjoy an early dinner and bountiful prize table.
Stay tuned for our 2025 date!

Wheatley Winter Sale
Since 2020, community members in Wheatley have put on the Wheatley Winter Sale. Artists, crafters, small business owners and bakers in the community set up in their garages, front porches or group together in central locations like the Village Resource Centre to sell their wares. Customers consult the map, usually available online and at the Village Resource Centre and check out the different sales, similar to a community yard sale.
In 2024, the Wheatley Horticultural Society set up a drop-in wreath making workshop.
Our next garden tour will in in 2026. If you have a garden you’d be interested in having showcased on the tour, and it is in Wheatley or closer to Wheatley than another community, please contact us.
