On Saturday, May 24, close to 300 people gathered at the Arboretum & Learning Trail to celebrate the naming of Phase 2 of the trail. This connecting trail runs from the track beside the arena to the back of the Arboretum & Learning Trail and has been named to honour Dr. McKibbin, a world-renowned equine veterinarian.
Doc McKibbin’s family and community members gathered for the sign unveiling.

This spring, the Wheatley Horticultural Society was also lucky enough to receive a Tree Canada Grant, supported by the LCBO. 16 fruit and nut trees were planted at the Arboretum & Learning Trail with these funds. The trees were installed earlier by Peanut Nursery, but Victoria Robinet, manager of the local LCBOs, joined us on Saturday for a ceremonial mulching.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority provided advice on choosing one of the trees provided by the Wheatley Horticultural Society and a Chatham-Kent Together grant.

The “Pony-Hops”, a nod to Doc McKibbin’s pioneering work with horses were a crowd favourite, as was the mini-golf.

Everyone made friends with some of the Zoo2You animals, but some reptiles were more popular than others.

Join us on June 7th to help finish the colouring mural!
